June 1, Immunizations for Incoming 7th Graders

Dear OVA Families,

You are receiving this email because your incoming 7th grader for the 2022-23 school year has immunizations due by the start of the school year, per the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), and we would like you to have time before the start of the school year to schedule any appointments that may be needed this summer.

Michigan law requires that all students must be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases to attend school.  At this time, the Michigan immunization requirements, waivers, and reporting for schools remains the same per the MI Public Health Code.

If you have questions about the immunizations that are needed, please contact your child’s healthcare provider.  Please take any immunization records you may have to your healthcare provider so that your child’s immunization record can be updated.

If you choose not to have your child vaccinated with the required vaccines, you need to make a waiver education appointment with your local health department to receive a non-medical waiver.

  • Oakland County residents – contact the Oakland County nurse on call to schedule a waiver education appointment @ 1-800-848-5533.
  • Out of Oakland County residents – contact your local health department for waiver education information.
  • Medical waivers must be obtained from your child’s physician.

Please schedule all non-medical waiver appointments at your local health department before August to avoid the back-to-school rush.

In order to complete the school registration process before your child's first day of school on August 25, please email the updated proof of complete immunizations, or waiver obtained by your local health department, to [email protected]The waiver must be dated after January 1 of the current calendar year.

If your child’s doctor appointment or waiver appointment is after the first day of school, please call the Oxford Virtual Academy @248-969-5093 and leave a message with your child’s name and date of appointment.

Thank you,

Janet Schell
